Actors on Networking
As we all know networking has become a way of doing business among other businesses. It a way of one business helping another. It is this form of application that networking easily applies to the acting community. One actor helping another! It's a way actors can share job information, audition tips, and support for each other while developing their careers.
True, acting may not be a team sport, but learning from each other is a way of life in the industry. Of all the most important things an actor can do to improve his chances for success, networking may be number one on the list. A lot of this business is about networking, and really use that resource because you never know where your head shot will end up.
Make friends with other actors in town...you'll be surprised how much help they can be. Exchange ideas, find out how they get their parts and where. Have fun with them. It's not a rivalry.
Don't just rely on an agent to get you jobs, use them to network. When you find out about an audition from a fellow actor, hand out head shots to the people in the business, you never know who may call you.
In this business it's not just how talented you are, but who you know that can get you parts. One small job may lead to a bigger job.
Don't schmooze, just be yourself at all gatherings. Look for organizations that cater to actors and join.
Networking is about helping each other in the business. Learn to network via phone and emails. Remember, stay in touch, ask what they are doing, what they have learned, etc.
